And if that’s not enough, some lawmakers want to double small business taxes in a new property tax scheme.

BACKGROUND: Now is the time to support property tax relief and oppose tax hikes on Vermont’s small businesses.

SUPPORT – Property Tax Relief. Governor Scott has called for lawmakers to use surplus funds to buy down the 12% increase in the statewide education property tax. This could significantly reduce or freeze any property tax hike!

OPPOSE – Higher Small Business Taxes

Small partnerships, LLCs, and other pass-through businesses are facing a massive tax increase under H.177, a proposal to eliminate homestead property taxes by shifting the burden onto small businesses and workers. This bill would effectively double the state’s income tax rates while forcing small businesses, farms, and other non-homestead property owners to keep paying property taxes.
