HB 585 includes key changes long sought by small business owners
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BARRE, VT (Jan. 27, 2026) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s leading small business advocacy association representing more than 800 small business owners in Vermont, is urging lawmakers to support major reforms to the state’s health insurance regulations included in House Bill 585. This bill includes key changes long sought by small business owners and is scheduled for hearings in the Vermont House of Representatives this week.
“Vermont small businesses and their employees deserve more affordable health coverage options,” said John Reynolds, NFIB Vermont State Director. “Seventy-five percent of Vermont small businesses are shut out of small group market coverage because it is unaffordable or impractical. House Bill 585 removes outdated barriers to affordable coverage options, reduces premiums, and enhances options for small businesses and their employees.”
