Small Businesses Warn Against Added Expenses, Regulations During Legislative Session

January 14, 2026

The Maryland General Assembly returns to session today

NFIB Maryland State Director Mike O’Halloran urges state lawmakers to focus on small business growth during the 2026 legislative session:

“This legislative session, small businesses need the General Assembly to focus on growing the state’s economy and not saddling Main Street with higher expenses and regulations. Small business owners are managing the new taxes and fees that were passed last year, and they simply can’t afford more bad legislation. Lawmakers should prioritize promoting policies that will strengthen Maryland’s economic growth and avoid policies that make it harder to run and operate a small business.”
