Bipartisan Legislation in the U.S. Senate Will Reduce Burdensome Healthcare Reporting Requirements

Bipartisan Legislation in the U.S. Senate Will Reduce Burdensome Healthcare Reporting Requirements

March 6, 2024 Last Edit: July 25, 2024

Two pieces of bipartisan healthcare legislation are being considered in the U.S. Senate. Urge your Senators to support alleviating administrative burdens and red tape for small employers.

In 2023, the U.S. Senate introduced two pieces of bipartisan legislation, the Employer Reporting Improvement Act and the Paperwork Burden Reduction Act that would streamline burdensome reporting requirements and reduce paperwork The U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed companion legislation earlier in 2023, which NFIB is advocating U.S. Senators support.

“This is a breath of fresh air that small businesses desperately need,” said Josselin Castillo, NFIB Principal of Federal Government Relations. “By allowing electronic filing of essential documents and promoting flexibility, this legislation slices through bureaucratic barriers, protecting small businesses from being overly exposed to unwarranted fines. It’s not just about reducing unnecessary paperwork; it’s about empowering small business owners with the flexibility they need to better support their valued employees.”

The Employer Reporting Improvement Act would protect Americans’ privacy, ease compliance burdens, and modernize communication with electronic filing of certain documents. Small business owners consistently rank “unreasonable government regulations” as a top concern for their businesses.

The Paperwork Burden Reduction Act would reduce the number of physical forms that employers need to mail to employees every year.

Eliminating paperwork burdens and streamlining reporting and compliance requirements would give time back to small business owners without impacting healthcare coverage for their employees. Take Action: Make your voice heard and tell your U.S. Senators to support these pieces of legislation to alleviate healthcare administrative burdens for small employers now.
