Illinois Lawmakers Set to Return to Springfield after Columbus Day

The Illinois General Assembly’s fall veto session is set to begin on October 14

The Illinois General Assembly is set to return to Springfield on October 14, the day after Columbus Day.

Legislators are scheduled to meet October 14-16 and October 28-30.

While the legislative leaders have yet to announce an agenda for the fall legislative session, possible issues that lawmakers may take up include:

–  Tax increases to increase state funding for the Chicago-area public transit systems.

–  A package of changes to give the Illinois Commerce Commission more powers over the energy industry and to direct further investments into renewable energy sources.

–  Modifications to existing Illinois laws limiting cooperation with federal immigration-law enforcement actions.

–  Expansion of the state’s prevailing wage mandate to additional private projects.

–  Extension of Illinois’ SALT pass-through provisions.

The first week of the legislative session (October 14-16) will probably see a lot of caucusing behind closed doors to discuss tightly controlled legislative packages with the key votes to follow during the second week (October 28-30).

In case you missed it, a call-to-action was sent out to tell lawmakers to reject a retail delivery tax designed to to bail out the Chicago-area public transit systems. CLICK HERE to let your voice be heard!
