Wisconsin Legislative Update: Unemployment Reform & Preserving Consumer Choice

Wisconsin Legislative Update: Unemployment Reform & Preserving Consumer Choice

September 17, 2025

NFIB Wisconsin recently issued an action alert for two issues that affect small businesses

The legislature is back for their fall session in Madison.  As you may know, NFIB issued an action alert for two issues that affect small businesses here in Wisconsin.
Unemployment Reform

AB 146 extends the amount of time a business must respond to an unemployment insurance inquiry from DWD about a former employer. The bill would extend the amount of time a business has to respond to 12 days. This gives employers, like you, more time to respond.  This bill passed the Assembly and now heads to the Senate for approval.
Gas-powered Engines

SB 184 blocks efforts like those in California that would ban gas-powered cars and devices. Consumers should have the right to choose the products they purchase and not be forced into electric cars by banning gasoline engines.  This bill passed, and having cleared both houses of the legislature, will now to Governor Evers for his consideration.

Thank you to everyone who made their voices heard by contacting their elected officials.  NFIB will keep advocating for measures like these that protect your small business.
