NFIB Members Meet with U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy in Baton Rouge

August 22, 2025

The event underscored NFIB’s commitment to giving small business a strong voice in Washington

NFIB members gathered at Mestizo Restaurant in Baton Rouge on Aug. 21 for a conversation with U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy.

Senator Cassidy shared his insights into what’s happening in Washington and provided updates on several key NFIB priorities, including the push to repeal the federal beneficial ownership reporting law and require FinCEN to permanently destroy all small business data.

NFIB State Director Leah Long said, “We appreciate Senator Cassidy taking the time to meet with our members and answer their questions about the beneficial ownership information mandate and other issues that directly affect their ability to own, operate, and grow their small businesses.

“Our members are also grateful for his support of legislation to make the 20% small business deduction permanent,” she said. The provision making the deduction permanent was part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

“This deduction empowers Main Street businesses to grow, hire, invest in jobs, and give back to their communities. It provides certainty and helps level the playing field for small businesses competing against large corporate competitors.”

Senator Cassidy said, “Small business owners know how to create jobs. By letting them keep more of their money, the One, Big, Beautiful Bill will help them fulfill their goal. It’s good for employers and employees.”
