Shopping Small During Sales Tax Holiday Could Bolster Arkansas’ Main Street Economy

Certain back-to-school items will be exempt from sales tax Saturday, August 2, through Sunday, August 3.

LITTLE ROCK (July 22, 2025) – Ahead of the 2025 Sales Tax Holiday, NFIB State Director Katie Burns is urging Arkansans to shop small. The sales tax holiday, which begins on Saturday, August 2, and runs through the weekend, is a great opportunity to support local businesses.

“Every purchase made at a small business supports the local Arkansas economy,” Burns said. “And during the sales tax holiday, those hard-earned dollars go even further. It’s a small way to make a big difference for our Main Street businesses, who do so much to keep our communities thriving.”

Background:

According to the Department of Finance & Administration, the sales tax holiday begins on Saturday, August 2, 2025, and ends on Sunday, August 3, 2025. All retailers are required to participate and may not charge tax on items that are legally tax-exempt during the Sales Tax Holiday.
