Small Business Supports Red Tape Reduction Initiative

LANSING, MI (June 12, 2025) – Michigan State Director Amanda Fisher of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the state and nation’s leading small business advocacy organization, praised the Red Tape Reduction Initiative spearheaded by Rep. Bill G. Schuette and House Republicans.

“NFIB’s Main Street Agenda has included restoring legislative oversight and the reining in of the state departments for the past several years. These departments go around the legislature and use permitting and licensing to make de facto laws that should fall under the purview of elected officials,” said Fisher.

“Small businesses were encouraged to hear Governor Whitmer address the challenges with the permitting process. Regulatory issues are especially challenging for small business owners who do not have the resources and time to spend dealing with government bureaucracy. NFIB appreciates Chairman Schuette picking up that mantle and the thoughtful process that he and the House Rules Committee participated in to identify areas where meaningful changes can be made,” continued Fisher.

“NFIB looks forward to continuing to partner with lawmakers to implement the Red Tape Reduction Initiative. We believe this is an opportunity to make substantial changes to Michigan’s regulatory environment. Reversing onerous regulations put into place by unelected bureaucrats, as well as eliminating redundancies that exist within state government will make it easier for entrepreneurs to start and grow small businesses in Michigan.”
