Rep. Kelly discussed making the 20% Small Business Deduction permanent in Congress

U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (PA-16) joined NFIB’s Small Business Rundown podcast on the importance of making the 20% Small Business Deduction permanent. Rep. Kelly’s family owns an automobile business in Butler which has been open since 1953.

Rep. Kelly is a co-sponsor of the Main Street Tax Certainty Act, legislation that would make the 20% Small Business Deduction permanent. He encourages small business owners to keep the pressure on Congress:

What I would just ask all the [NFIB] members, please be active members. And what I mean by that is not just signing up but contacting the person who represents you. And it doesn’t matter what side of the aisle they’re on. I couldn’t care less about that. It’s about being on the right side of the issue and understanding that we’re not looking for a handout, we’re not looking for a break. We’re looking for an opportunity to reinvest our money the right way, that way we can have more success. And by being more successful, you’ll be making contributions to the incredible operation that we call America.

Making the deduction permanent would lead to significant economic benefits, leaving the small business tax rate on a level playing field with its competitors. Additionally, Pennsylvania is projected to gain 51,000 new jobs annually over the next 10 years if the deduction remains in place, including an annual GDP increase of $2.79 billion for the first decade and $5.75 billion per year beyond 2035.
