Minnesota Governor Walz Calls Special Election for Senate District 6

Minnesota Governor Walz called a special election to fill the seat left vacant following the recent resignation

On Tuesday, March 25th, Governor Walz called a special election to fill the state Senate seat left vacant following the recent resignation of a Republican senator. The open seat is in Senate District 6, which encompasses Cass, Crow Wing, and Itasca Counties.

According to the Writ of Special Election, the special election for Senate District 6 will be held on Tuesday, April 29th, 2025. If necessary, a special primary election will be held on Tuesday, April 15th, 2025.

Although several candidates have already declared their intent to file, affidavits of candidacy and nominating petitions for the special election must be filed by 5:00pm on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. NFIB will vet candidates to establish where they stand on issues that impact small business.
