Take Action! Albany Lawmakers Should Oppose Government-Run, Single Payer Health Care System

With less than two weeks left in the legislative session, the New York State Assembly and Senate are considering legislation that would eliminate private health insurance coverage and establish a single payer, government-run healthcare system in New York State. The New York Health Act is a one-size-fits-all government plan that could cost as much as $250 billion in taxes. The unlimited payroll tax would fall largely on employers and all employers, including small businesses, would be responsible for 80% of the new payroll tax.

With only 5% of New Yorkers currently lacking insurance, New York State’s health policy should focus on finding innovative and affordable ways to provide coverage options for those remaining uninsured, not mandating a $250 billion tax bill that forces thousands of small businesses to close or relocate out of state.

This bill will increase the tax burden for every working New Yorker and make the state a less attractive place to operate a business. With a long road to economic recovery, New York State should not enact a massive new tax burden on our state’s small businesses.

NFIB urges you to voice your opposition to the New York Health Act. You can quickly and easily contact your elected officials by completing this action alert!
