NFIB Supports Governor’s Investment in Wisconsin Small Business

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the state’s leading small business organization, supports Governor Evers’ plan to invest an additional $600 million to support Wisconsin’s struggling small businesses.

According to NFIB’s Research Center, small business is working hard to recover from the economic hardship of COVID-19, with 13 percent reporting they will be forced to close their doors if economic conditions do not improve over the next six months, down from 25 percent last December.

“We are supportive of the Governor’s plan to direct additional financial assistance to support our state’s Main Street businesses,” said Bill G. Smith, NFIB State Director in Wisconsin. “While some small business economic indicators seem to show some improvement, NFIB’s research shows only 35 percent of the owners are back or nearly back to where they were with sales between 76-100 percent of levels in 2019.”

Research show that the economic recovery across Wisconsin is uneven and varies from one small business to another, which is why additional resources and flexibility are needed to ensure a successful statewide recovery.
