Retirements, term limits, and upsets bring change to the face of policymaking.

Election Day Shakes Up Maryland Government

Voters went to the polls on Election Day to pick federal, state, and local representatives. Marylanders overwhelmingly chose Democrat Wes Moore to be their next Governor. The first-time candidate defeated Republican Dan Cox by a nearly 30-point margin. Voters also picked fellow Democrats Brooke Lierman and Anthony Brown to be the next Comptroller and Attorney General, respectively. Overall, Democrats faired very well, gaining seats in both chambers of the General Assembly and increasing their supermajorities. NFIB-endorsed candidates also had a lot of electoral success with 36 out of 37 endorsed candidates securing victory with another contest still undetermined. These pro-small business legislators will be critical partners over the next four years to ensure the success of NFIB’s agenda.
