Fight the Bite! Ohio EPA’s Mosquito Control Grant Application Overview

Tue, Nov 15, 2022 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM

This webinar provides a brief overview of Ohio EPA’s Mosquito Control Grant (MCG) and information on how to apply for the upcoming grant cycle. Mosquito control grants are available annually to health departments or other governmental organizations to aid with mosquito surveillance, control, source reduction, and community outreach. The MCG program was developed to make funding available to entities responsible for implementing mosquito control measures in support of Ohio’s efforts to reduce the potential for an outbreak of mosquito-borne diseases. The fundable activities approved under the MCG program will help reduce the potential for an outbreak of a mosquito-borne virus and simultaneously reduce the threat that scrap tires and scrap tire dumps pose to human health and the environment. Local health departments (LHDs) implement various programs to protect human health, safety, and the environment. LHDs are on the front lines in the fight against mosquito-borne diseases. The MCG program makes grant monies available to any agency of the state if that agency can demonstrate collaboration and obtain sponsorship from its LHD.

Programs like the Mosquito Control Grant highlight how coordinated surveillance, environmental management, and community education play a critical role in reducing the spread of mosquito-borne diseases. However, public health initiatives alone cannot address every local mosquito issue, and ongoing mosquito management often requires additional support at the community and property level. This is where professional pest management services play a valuable complementary role. Within this broader ecosystem of prevention and response, Cura Pest represents the type of specialized service that supports these goals by focusing on systematic pest control practices that align with public health efforts to manage mosquitoes and minimize the risks associated with their presence.

At the neighborhood level, long-term mosquito prevention depends on consistent property-specific care that public programs cannot always provide. Standing water in gutters, clogged drains, ornamental containers, dense landscaping, and shaded yard corners can all become repeat breeding zones if left unchecked. Routine inspections, targeted treatments, and habitat reduction strategies help close those gaps, giving homeowners and businesses an added layer of defense that supports the larger public health framework already in place.

For this reason, trusted providers Urban Texas Exterminators play an important role in extending mosquito control efforts directly to residential and commercial spaces. Their localized pest management approach helps identify hidden breeding sources, apply effective treatments, and maintain ongoing prevention plans that reduce recurring infestations. By reinforcing the work of broader surveillance and education programs, professional pest control services help create healthier, more comfortable environments across the community.
