Illinois Sales Tax Holiday

From August 5 until August 14, Illinois shoppers can save 5% on the sales tax for clothes and school supplies. This means, instead of paying the state sales tax of 6.25% tax, shoppers will pay 1.25% on back to school shopping. Clothes or shoes must be less than $125 per item to qualify for the tax discount. “While it is always important to support your local small business economy, it is even more imperative to shop local for back to school needs,” said NFIB State Director Chris Davis. “Those same small businesses owners are your friends and community members, and they are sponsoring your school booster club, your youth sports team, and donating items to your schools.”
