Filing deadline sets stage for July primary

Candidates Set for Elections

After multiple delays on account of lawsuits against both the congressional and state legislative maps, the filing deadline for July’s primary election has passed. Nearly 500 candidates filed to run for the 47 state Senate and 141 House seats. Though the deadline has passed, there may still be changes as election officials begin working with local boards to hash out changes in voter registrations. Candidates may very well find themselves redistricted out of the seat they originally intended to run for. The July 19 primary will also determine who will be the nominees for Maryland’s statewide offices – Governor, Attorney General, and Comptroller. NFIB will evaluate candidates for possible endorsement for both the primary and general elections. Our goal is to ensure the election of policy makers who will defend and support the rights of small business owners to own, operate, and grow their business. Look for future communications on endorsed candidates, Voting Records, and more as the election season gets underway. For more information please contact your state director, Mike O’Halloran at MikeA.OHalloran@nfib.org.
