Wisconsin NFIB Opposes Local Minimum Wage Proposal

A proposal that would allow local governments to establish their own minimum wage rates has been introduced in the Legislature.

Senate Bill 1074, introduced by Senator Melissa Agard (D-Madison), would allow local governments to establish their own minimum rate which would create a patchwork of potentially dozens of minimum wage rates throughout Wisconsin. Current law prohibits a city, village, town, or county from enacting an ordinance establishing a minimum wage.

According to the authors, twenty-two states allow local governments to establish local minimum wages, and over fifty local governments have established their own minimum wage rate.

Senate Bill 1074 was referred to the Senate Committee on Transportation and Local Government for review.  NFIB opposed passage.
