Take Action: Urge Michigan Senators to Make Crucial Fixes to the Earned Sick Time Act and Tipped Wages

February 3, 2025

State House passes legislation with common sense

Michigan lawmakers have less than a month to make critical changes needed to both the earned sick time (paid sick leave) and tipped wages for servers’ laws that will go into effect on February 21, 2025, unless the Michigan Senate acts NOW.

The Michigan House passed HB 4001 and HB 4002 with bipartisan support on January 23, 2025, which restored the restaurant server tipped wage and modified the Earned Sick Time Act (ESTA). Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle worked with Speaker Hall to prioritize this legislation and act quickly for Michigan’s small business owners.

TAKE ACTION: Senate Democrats are reluctant to act and time is running out – let your Senator know they need to quickly pass legislation to avoid increasing costs for small businesses owners across the state.

If the Senate doesn’t act, the Earned Sick Time Act will affect ALL Michigan employers with one or more employees.
