NFIB Texas Recognizes Rep. Murr as a ‘Guardian of Small Business’

AUSTIN (Dec. 13, 2023) – “Our members are grateful to Rep. Murr for his 100% voting record on small business solutions,” NFIB State Director Jeff Burdett said. “Among many small business priorities, Rep. Murr’s efforts to create specialized business courts will ensure our entrepreneurs have access to fair and timely rulings and greater faith in our legal system. We thank Rep. Murr for standing up for small businesses.” “Small businesses are the backbone of our rural communities, and I’ve always been a strong advocate for their growth and success,” Rep. Murr said. “It’s an honor to receive this award, which reaffirms my commitment to supporting local entrepreneurs, job creators, and the incredible individuals who make our small business community thrive. I will continue to work with NFIB to strengthen our small business ecosystem, drive innovation, and create opportunities for everyone in our community.”

Representative Andy Murr — (R-Junction) Rep. Murr, an eighth-generation Texan, was raised on a ranch in Kimble County. First elected in 2014 to represent District 53, Rep. Murr serves as Chairman of the House General Investigating Committee and sits on the House Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence Committee. During the 2023 legislative session, Rep. Murr authored HB 19, which created a new state district court to hear business cases by judges who are experts on business issues. This legislation was supported by NFIB as a priority coalition bill. He passed other pro-small business legislation such as HB 131, which allows for school absences so students may visit a workplace for career investigation day, and HB 2636, which creates liability protections for RV park owners. His efforts in the 2023 legislative session earned him a 100% on the NFIB Texas voting record. Background: In August, NFIB Texas released a list of 66 lawmakers who earned 100 percent NFIB voting records during the 88th Legislative Session. NFIB’s 2023 Voting Record included seven key votes on regulatory relief, tax relief, property owners’ rights, judicial reform, and workforce development.
