Recap: Small Business Roundtable with New York State Senator Jeremy Cooney

New York State Senator Jeremy Cooney joined NFIB for a small business roundtable on Monday, November 6th at NFIB member Wise Home Energy in Rochester, New York. NFIB members from around the senator’s district provided their perspectives on a wide range of issues affecting New York’s small businesses, including the state’s Unemployment Insurance (UI) debt, COVID sick leave, the rise in costly lawsuits, taxes, energy policy, access to government contracts, and New York’s overall business environment. For more than 90 minutes, the senator listened to NFIB’s members and provided insight on his efforts in Albany. The senator highlighted his advocacy for the small businesses in his district by introducing legislation to phase out the state’s outdated COVID sick leave law, and he has been a vocal supporter of addressing the state’s outstanding UI debt to alleviate the increased tax burden on Main Street. This important dialogue came at a critical time as lawmakers prepare for their return to Albany in January for the next legislative session. NFIB’s New York office thanks Senator Cooney and his staff for attending the roundtable and appreciates our NFIB members for taking the time to participate.
