Wisconsin Governor Vetoes Workforce Package

A package of unemployment insurance reform, approved by the Legislature and strongly backed by NFIB, have been rejected by Governor Tony Evers.

Wisconsin Governor Vetoes Workforce Package

A package of unemployment insurance reform, approved by the Legislature and strongly backed by NFIB, have been rejected by Governor Tony Evers.   The Governor vetoed legislation that would have responded to a common concern from small business employers that job applicants often fail to show for interviews or report to work when hired. Also vetoed by the Governor is legislation that would have improved the requirements for work search, and a bill that would have provided a linkage between UI benefits and economic conditions.   Governor Evers used his veto to also reject the “freedom to purchase” legislation that would have prohibited local or state governments from restricting the use or sale of devices and motor vehicles based on the energy source to power them.   NFIB supported passage and urged the Governor to sign the legislation into law to help preserve consumer choice.
