NFIB Celebrates 80 Years of Fighting For Small Businesses

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 22, 2023) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s leading small business advocacy organization, celebrated 80 years as an organization on Saturday, May 20. Founded in 1943, NFIB has been the voice of small business, advocating on behalf of America’s small and independent business owners, both in Washington, D.C. and in all 50 state capitals. NFIB President Brad Close issue the following statement celebrating NFIB’s 80^th Anniversary: “As we celebrate NFIB’s 80^th anniversary, I’m reminded of the resilience of our members – small and independent business owners all across our great country. They overcome hurdles every day to keep their doors open, serve their customers, and strengthen their communities. Over the last 80 years, small businesses have confronted many difficulties, but small business owners have always found a way to weather the worst storms. “Over the past 25 years alone, small businesses have created nearly 13 million net new jobs, accounting for two out of every three jobs added to the American economy. While big businesses have laid off tens of thousands of people, small business owners continue to hire and grow. Small businesses are clearly the engine that drives our nation’s economy. “Today, small business owners continue to face challenges to own and run their businesses. Inflation, high fuel costs, worker shortages, and supply chain issues – not to mention threats of new taxes and regulations directly targeted at your business – make it more difficult to operate and sustain a small business. And just over the horizon in 2025, Congress has scheduled a massive tax increase on small and independent businesses. The small business tax deduction, which provides a 20% deduction to pass-through businesses such as LLCs, Partnerships, and others, is set to expire at the end of 2025. Making the small business tax deduction permanent will be a top priority. “NFIB was founded 80 years ago to fight for small businesses in the states, the courts, and Washington, D.C. To do that effectively, we will push back against unnecessary and burdensome regulations, high taxes, and out-of-control healthcare costs. Please join me in celebrating NFIB’s 80th anniversary, as we renew our commitment to fight for small and independent businesses for many more decades to come.”
