Newly Introduced HB 219 Will Punish Job Creators Statewide with Insurance Rate Hikes

This week, a last-minute legislative initiative, House Bill 219, has surfaced in Springfield to enable punitive damages in wrongful death civil liability cases. Punitive damages have nothing to do with compensating a victim or victim’s family for their loss. Punitive damages are, by definition, intended to punish the offending party. However, it will not be the offending party that will pay punitive damages. EVERY single employer in the State of Illinois will pay these punitive damages in the form of increased insurance rates. Illinois continues to burden employers with increased costs and mandates. House Bill 219 adds yet another burden that is crushing your business. Write your legislator TODAY and let them know that small business owners need Springfield’s SUPPORT, not more increased costs and mandates!
