Committees are assigned, and the House has improved transparency

TN Legislative Session is Underway

The 113th Tennessee General Assembly is underway! Shortly after gaveling in on noon Tuesday, Jan. 10, Lt. Gov. Randy McNally and House Speaker Cameron Sexton were easily reelected to lead their chambers. NFIB congratulates them both. Small business will be keeping an eye on newly filed bills before the House (Jan. 31) and Senate (Feb. 6) deadlines. We will keep our membership posted in the months ahead on bills that could impact your businesses, positively or negatively. Speakers Make Committee Assignments Lt. Gov. McNally and Speaker Sexton announced committee assignments this morning. Little changed on the Senate side. Importantly to small business, the Commerce & Finance chairs and sub chairs in both chambers remain the same. Please click here to access all House assignments and here for all Senate assignments.

Rep. Chris Todd

House Improves Transparency  Speaker Sexton announced new steps to give the public access to proposed amendments. Read more here. You can register to access redlined amendments in real-time here. State Rep. Chris Todd from Humboldt, an NFIB member and former chair of the NFIB TN Leadership Council, pushed hard for several years for this transparency improvement, and the speaker delivered. Several years ago, NFIB introduced legislation that passed that requires proposed rules by state agencies to be redlined. The new changes in the House build greatly on that transparency.
