NFIB Gearing Up for General Assembly

The state General Assembly will convene on Jan. 11 for a brief organization session and then recess until Jan. 25. NFIB State Director Gregg Thompson says it’s still too soon to say which issues will advance in the 2023-24 session. “There’ll be a lot of new members from both parties in both the House and Senate,” Thompson said. “It’ll take leadership a bit to fully understand where everyone stands and what bills are mostly like to find traction.” The small business community’s challenges this session will include:
  • Tax reform. NFIB is continuing to fight for the reduction and elimination of the franchise tax, an increase in the personal standard deduction, and reducing the personal and corporate income tax rates.
  • North Carolina’s worker shortage. We will work with the Community College System to promote classes in the career areas needing workers the most and relax regulations to assist with hiring employees.
  • Repeal the state tax on services. We’ll also oppose efforts to impose additional taxes on services and other small businesses.
