There were few surprises with New York’s election results apart from the gains Republicans made with voters, particularly in the area surrounding New York City. While President Biden won New York with 61% of the vote, Vice President Harris is running about six points behind, coming in with around 55% of the vote.

New York State is considered a battleground state for control of the U.S. House of Representatives, and Democrats have picked up two seats in the state – flipping NY-19 with Marc Molinaro (R-incumbent) losing to Josh Riley (D) and NY-22 with Brandon Williams (R-incumbent) losing to John Mannion (D). One battleground congressional seat, NY-04, held by Anthony D’Esposito (R-incumbent) is still too close to call as of Wednesday, Nov. 6th. Seven other NFIB Fed PAC-endorsed incumbents won re-election.

The composition of the New York State Senate and Assembly will remain the same with incumbents in both chambers having strong nights overall. New York Senate Republicans have likely stripped Democrats of their supermajority, securing 22 seats, by flipping NY-17 in New York City. The only New York State Senate race that is too close to call is between Chris Ryan (D) and Nick Paro (R) in SD-50. The Democrats appear to hang onto their supermajority in the Assembly by one or two votes, but a few races are still too close to call.

NFIB’s PAC committees endorsed a bipartisan group of 65 pro-small business candidates throughout New York. Fifty-six of those endorsed candidates were elected to serve in Albany or Washington, D.C. – a nearly 90% success rate in electing pro-small business legislators!
