Special Session Gets Underway in Baton Rouge

NFIB State Director Leah Long said today small business owners are cautiously optimistic about the special session on tax reform that begins today.

“Governor Landry’s order addresses key issues for Louisiana’s small business community, including reducing individual income taxes,” Long said. “This would greatly ease the financial pressure on Main Street businesses by creating opportunities for reinvestment in the local community and local jobs.

“However, expanding sales taxes on services that have never been taxed before could burden the smallest business owners. Small business owners already pay 90% more in tax compliance costs per employee than large businesses. Expanding the service tax would increase administrative costs and force businesses to raise prices, putting them at a competitive disadvantage.
“We look forward to working with Governor Landry and legislative leaders on solutions that support Louisiana’s small businesses during these uncertain economic times.”
