WATCH: Virginia Small Business Owner Featured in New NFIB TV Ad Backing 20% Small Business Tax Deduction

May 12, 2025

The deduction will expire at the end of 2025 unless Congress takes action

NFIB, the nation’s leading small business advocacy organization, released new TV ads today urging Congress to prioritize making the expiring 20% Small Business Tax Deduction permanent and prevent a massive tax hike on 9 out of 10 small businesses. The TV ads are a continuation of NFIB’s multi-year campaign to make the 20% Small Business Tax Deduction permanent.

The new TV ads spotlight small business owners and NFIB members sharing in their own words how the 20% Small Business Deduction has empowered them to grow, hire, and invest in their own small businesses, along with the consequences should Congress fail to act. One of the ads features Tina Miller, owner of Walkabout Outfitter, an outdoor clothing and gear retailer with locations in Richmond, Harrisonburg, Lexington, Roanoke, Blacksburg, and Williamsburg. In the ad, she says:

“It has been very difficult the last few years, and so the 20% Small Business Tax Deduction really helps level the playing field. It helps us take care of our employees, and, honestly, just to stay in business. Congressmen keep saying, ‘We care about small business.’ Well, we need Congress to act now.”

“These new TV ads reflect what we’ve heard from NFIB members across the country,” said NFIB President Brad Close. “Over the last seven years, America’s small businesses and their employees have experienced firsthand the value of the 20% Small Business Tax Deduction. As Congress tackles significant legislation, it is vital that essential small business provision remains a priority. Small businesses are growing, hiring, and reinvesting in their communities – but that is all at risk if the deduction is allowed to expire at the end of this year. These ads make clear the stakes of this legislative debate.”
