WATCH: OK Lawmakers Speak at Virtual Small Business Day

Small business owners from around the state logged on today for NFIB’s Virtual Small Business at the Capitol. “By holding this year’s event online, we enabled small business owners to learn more about what’s happening in Oklahoma City and Washington, D.C., without having to leave work,” NFIB State Director Jerrod Shouse said. TAKE ACTION: Tell lawmakers to ease the tax burden on Oklahoma’s small businesses Speakers at this year’s event included state 29th District Sen. Julie Daniels, who brought small business owners up to speed on what’s happening in the state Senate. In his remarks, Rep. Mark Lepak, who represents the 9th District, talked about the influence NFIB has in Oklahoma City. “I’m at home, and I told my wife I was going to jump on this call, and she said, ‘Well, who’s NFIB?’ And I said, ‘Well, they’re the one group that when they come in and say, “Your bill stinks and we really don’t want you to move it,” you listen to them.'” Lepak also said most of the legislative action so far this session has been in committee rather than the House floor. Other speakers included Karen Harned, executive director of the NFIB Small Business Legal Center in Washington, D.C., who spoke about several issues include NFIB’s lawsuit challenging the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) emergency temporary standard, which mandates that businesses with 100 or more employees must require workers get the COVID-19 vaccine or undergo weekly testing and wear masks while at work. OSHA withdrew the vaccine mandate last month.
