The report shines a light on what's happening in the Volunteer State
On Tuesday, NFIB released its Small Business Economic Trends Survey for September. The national survey showed that the Small Business Optimism Index was still above its 52-year average but fell two points in September — the first drop in three months.
Meanwhile, the Uncertainty Index rose seven points from August to 100, the fourth-highest reading in over 50 years.
State Director Jim Brown said the national numbers reflect what he’s hearing from NFIB members across the state.
“Most of our members say they’re holding steady, but it’s getting harder for them to plan ahead,” he said. “Between rising costs, uncertainty about sales, and trouble finding workers, small business owners are increasingly cautious.”
NFIB is a member-driven organization advocating on behalf of small and independent businesses nationwide.
