NFIB State Director Rosemary Elebash says the nation’s leading small business advocacy organization is urging Alabamians to shop local during the state’s annual back-to-school sales tax holiday, July 17-19.

Theevent allows shoppers to buy certain items free of the state sales tax, including clothing priced at $156 or less per item, computers and software priced at $1,173 or less, school supplies priced at $78 or less per item, and textbooks priced at $47 or less. “Alabama’s back-to-school sales tax holiday is a win for families and small businesses alike,” Elebash said. “It gives parents a chance to save on essential school purchases while helping local retailers during one of their busiest shopping seasons of the year.”

She said the tax holiday is also a reminder of the important role small businesses play in communities across the state.

“When families choose to shop at locally owned businesses, they’re doing more than preparing for the school year,” Elebash said. “They’re supporting local jobs, strengthening their communities, and helping Alabama’s small businesses succeed.”
