Federal Court of Appeals Reinstates BOI Reporting
On December 23, 2024, a federal court of appeals lifted the preliminary injunction blocking the reporting deadline for Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI).
Following the decision, FinCEN has extended its reporting deadline to January 13, 2025, meaning that businesses will have an additional 12 days to file their BOI reports.
NFIB has quickly appealed the court’s latest decision and will continue to push Congress for a full repeal of the Corporate Transparency Act’s unconstitutional and dangerous BOI reporting requirements. Given the short nature of FinCEN’s extension and that NFIB cannot guarantee what the outcome of our appeal will be, small businesses may wish to prepare or file their beneficial ownership reports.
While NFIB is working to block and repeal the BOI reporting requirements in the federal courts and Congress, you can join the repeal effort by sending a message to your lawmakers in the U.S. House and Senate here.
For more information, you can visit FinCEN’s BOI page here. If you have any questions about the status of the case or BOI reporting, please reach out to the Legal Center at Info@nfib.org.
