NFIB Encouraged by 2019 Legislative Session

Date: April 25, 2019

Indianapolis, Ind. (April 25, 2019) NFIB in Indiana, the state’s leading small business association, thanks Governor Holcomb, Speaker of the House Brian Bosma, and Senate Pro Tempore Rodric Bray for their leadership and commitment to Indiana’s small businesses throughout the 2019 Legislative Session. The Indiana General Assembly passed a balanced budget and a legislative agenda that supports job creation and ultimately, the small businesses who create most of those jobs.

“The 2019 Indiana Legislative session proved to be a success for small businesses in the state,” says NFIB’s Indiana State Director Barbara Quandt. “Small businesses benefited from several bills that were passed in both the state Senate and House. We look forward to working with legislators next session to further advance Indiana’s small businesses.”

Throughout the 2019 Legislative Session, small business owners have benefited from several types of legislation. Senate Bill 223 – Business Proposal Property Small Business Exemption – will increase the acquisition threshold for the Business Personal Property Tax Exemption. The bill was passed in both the Senate and the House and is currently awaiting Gov. Holcomb’s signature.

The Career and Technical Education Matters legislation – House Bill 1002 – will also greatly benefit small business. As a key component to Gov. Holcomb’s Next Level Jobs Imitative, the legislation will help align the various state workforce programs to reduce duplication of the programs and increase effectiveness. As cited in NFIB’s Employee Training Survey, small businesses say work experience is far more valuable to most small employers than a formal education beyond a high school degree. The bill is currently awaiting Gov. Holcomb’s signature after passing in both the House and Senate.
