NFIB: Executive Order is Welcome News for Small Business Community

Date: May 19, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 19, 2020) — The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s leading small business advocacy organization, released the following statement from President Brad Close in response to a new Executive Order announced by President Trump today that instructs the head of every federal agency to remove any regulations that threaten economic recovery:

“Small businesses are working diligently and tirelessly during this unprecedented time to reopen quickly and safely while keeping in full compliance with the law. They are continuing to do all that they can to support their employees and their communities while keeping their lights on. The President’s Executive Order issued today is welcome news for small business owners trying to navigate the various regulations, laws, and guidelines. We are greatly encouraged that the Administration has acted swiftly to provide regulatory relief and protect our nation’s small businesses.”

NFIB previously issued the “Legislative Plan for Small Business Survival,” a 10-point plan that included prescriptive recommendations to help ensure more small businesses survive the coronavirus crisis and more quickly return to normal business operations once restrictions are lessened. The President’s Executive Order today addresses points 6 (“Recognize the Limits to the Ability of Small Businesses to Learn of and Comply with Laws and Regulations”) and 9 (“Require Each Agency to Conduct a Regulatory Look-Back Review”) of NFIB’s plan.
