Unemployment for Independent Contractors in Rhode Island

Date: April 23, 2020

How to apply

NFIB wants to be sure our members who are independent contractors, freelancers, self-employed or gig workers know that they can apply for unemployment benefits under the new Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) recently passed by Congress. In Rhode Island, there is a website set up expressly for that purpose. https://covidemergencyuibenefits.dlt.ri.gov/

Before filing a claim, there are documents you will need that include identification, information about dependents, as well as details about the contracts you had over the last 18 months. The list of what is needed is on the state’s webpage. Be sure to get a confirmation number when you apply to be sure your claim is processed.

We wish you and your family well over the coming months as our organization works on your behalf in Washington, D.C., and your state capital during this difficult time.
