State Treasurer Joe Torsella to Speak at NFIB PA Small Business Day

Torsella leads task force on proposal to create retirement savings plan for private-sector workers

HARRISBURG (Jan. 29, 2018) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Pennsylvania announced that state Treasurer Joe Torsella is speaking at NFIB’s Small Business Day at the Capitol event on Wednesday, April 11 in Harrisburg, PA.

As the treasurer of Pennsylvania, Torsella oversees an office of 360 employees, which protects nearly $100 billion in state assets. The Pennsylvania treasurer or his designee serves on approximately 20 boards on Treasury’s behalf and chairs the Board of Finance Revenue, the unclaimed property program, manages the state’s 529 College Savings Program and safeguards the financial health of the state.

Previously, from 2011-2014, Torsella served as the U.S. Representative to the United Nations, for budget and management reform. He was the architect, and chief public spokesperson for the Obama Administration plans for reform of the $36 billion United Nations system. He also served as chair of the Pennsylvania State Board of Education.

Torsella was the founding president and CEO of the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia and served as Philadelphia’s deputy mayor for policy and planning under then-Mayor Ed Rendell. He also served as co-chair of the Greater Philadelphia bid for the 2016 Olympic Games, is a former successful small business owner, and served on a number of corporate boards. Torsella was a Distinguished Visiting Fellow in Public Policy at Drexel University.

The day-and-a-half Small Business Day at the State Capitol event, kicks off April 10, with a reception and dinner featuring nationally syndicated radio host and political analyst Salena Zito. On Wednesday, April 11, business owners head to the state Capitol to meet with state officials, legislative leaders, and their own elected officials to discuss policies and mandates that affect small-business growth and hiring.
