HARRISBURG, PA. (March 21, 2016) –Small-business owners will be arriving at the state Capitol on Monday, April 4, to learn more about the current threats to their growth and survival in a series of briefings that include topics such as government mandates and proposed tax increases. NFIB is the largest small business association with over 14,000 members in Pennsylvania.
Small Business Day at the Capitol kicks off at 1pm, April 4 at the Radisson Hotel, Harrisburg, with a congressional update by Rep. Scott Perry (R-4) and a panel discussion on federal issues affecting small business, including the Affordable Care Act.
Jonathan Williams from the Center for State Fiscal Reform will discuss Pennsylvania’s economic competitiveness and then a panel discussion will be led by David Taylor of the Pennsylvania Manufacturers Association.
A panel will follow with an attorney from the NFIB Legal Center familiar with recent federal labor initiatives and local attorney, Adam Santucci, of McNees Wallace & Nurick.
NFIB’s Legislative Director, Neal Lesher, will conclude the briefings with an explanation of Gov. Tom Wolf’s proposals to raise taxes on small businesses. Those proposals range from an increase in the personal income tax to new taxes on a variety of business-to-business services and a proposed fee on business tax filings.
That evening, the Small Business Day dinner at 6:30 p.m. features speaker Stephen F. Hayes, senior writer at The Weekly Standard and Fox News contributor. Pennsylvania Treasurer, Timothy Reese, is the keynote speaker.
On Tuesday, April 5, business owners head to the state Capitol to meet with state legislative leaders and their own elected officials to discuss policies and mandates that affect small-business growth and hiring.
