Philadelphia Inquirer: Gov. Wolf’s Biggest PAC Donors Are Fighting Workers’ Comp Reform Bill

NFIB needs your help to pass that legislation to stop fraud, abuse, and opioid over-prescribing!

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Gov. Tom Wolf’s largest PAC contributions last year came from a PAC that has received significant funds from workers’ comp lawyers and doctors who also own pharmacies. The article states, “Their donations are coming in as lawmakers debate a bill that could put an end to the controversial practice of pharmacies billing insurers for unproven pain creams that can cost $4000 a tube or more.” An earlier article in the Inquirer first exposed the financial relationships of those lawyers and doctors to pharmacies.

NFIB is fighting for the that workers comp bill, Senate Bill 936, which would require that drugs in the workers’ comp system be prescribed using a set of nationally-recognized standards just like major health plans, Medicare and Medicaid do now. The Workers’ Compensation bill is meant to limit prescribing of unproven, ineffective medications, prevent fraud and abuse, and reduce the over-prescribing of opioids. It would also result in savings in the form of lower premiums to businesses.

Gov. Wolf’s spokesman told the Inquirer he opposes SB 936 because “We believe an injured workers’ access to benefits and treatment deemed reasonable and appropriate by their doctor could be negatively hindered and delayed by the proposed legislation.”

NFIB needs your help right away to get SB 936 over the finish line in the PA House!
