Pennsylvania Member Meetings Allow Business Owners to Speak Directly to Policy Makers

Date: March 13, 2017

Healthcare, taxes, regulations, and workers compensation discussed.

Last week, NFIB held meetings in Delaware and Chester County, Pennsylvania, to connect dozens of our members with local state Senators and House members. These regional meetings also include members of Congress or their staffers, who address federal issues.

In Aston, Pennsylvania, New Way Air Bearings hosted our meeting on Thursday, March 9.  Small-business owners told Senator Tom McGarrigle, Rep. Steve Barrar and Rep. Chris Quinn about their frustration with the decision making in workers’ compensation cases.  They discussed the state budget deficit which raises concerns about higher taxes on small companies.  And, there was a discussion of the bill to replace property taxes with higher income and increased and expanded sales taxes.

In Exton, Pennsylvania, DFT, Inc., a valve maker, hosted the NFIB member meeting on Friday, March 10.  Business owners met with Sen. Tom Killion and Representatives Milne, Corbin and Kampf. A manufacturer and a jewelry store owner talked about their state tax concerns. Another business owner says Obamacare has been devastating.  And, some companies explain they have had trouble finding qualified workers.

A labor attorney, Emily Edmunds, of the Saul Ewing firm, then offered NFIB members information on recent legal issues impacting small employers.

Four businesses were honored by NFIB for 25 years of membership at these two member meetings.
