HARRISBURG (Feb. 8, 2017) – Pennsylvania’s leading small-business group, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) praises the state Senate for passing a “paycheck protection” bill by a vote of 28 to 22, that prevents state government from administering automatic deductions for political activity and political contributions from employee paychecks.
“NFIB members, like the majority of Pennsylvanians, have long opposed state resources being used for political purposes, said Kevin Shivers, executive state director of NFIB/PA. “Since some of the money collected is used for those reasons, public employers should not be collecting those fees.
“The state employees can still send their political contributions to the union directly. This bill in no way impedes their participation in the election process,” said Shivers.
NFIB applauds the efforts of Sen. John Eichelberger (R-Blair), Sen. Scott Wagner (R-York), Sen. Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson), and Sen. Jake Corman (R-Centre) for advancing this legislation.
