NFIB/NY State Director Testifies on Paid Leave

Date: March 25, 2015

On March 24, NFIB/NY State Director Mike Durant gave testimony at the Joint Legislative Hearing on Issues Affecting Families in the Workplace. Durant’s testimony focused on reasons why a “one size fits all” paid leave policy, as proposed by S.3004/A.3870 — just one proposal setting forth paid leave– will not work for small employers.

The testimony emphasized:
* 97% of small employers surveyed by NFIB already provide some form of paid leave
* Mandatory paid leave will prevent employers from being able to offer benefits employees would prefer more than paid leave
* Small businesses cannot afford associated costs that could include hiring temporary replacement workers, lost productivity, lower morale for employees covering vacant shifts or increased temporary disability insurance premiums.
