A Special Post-Election Message from NFIB/NY

Date: November 05, 2014

Where to begin!?  It was
quite the Election Night for small business!  A wave of pro-small
business/taxpayer candidates were swept into the United States Senate, House
and right here in New York!  As always, political results are never
perfect, but NFIB ensured that each and every member’s voice was heard loud and
clear this cycle – to positive results!

In New York, NFIB backed 10
congressional candidates and were victorious in eight! From the historic
victory by Elise Stefanik in the 21st CD to the election of a
tremendous supporter of small business in Lee Zeldin in the 1st,
NFIB worked hard to ensure you are well represented in Washington D.C. by
lawmakers who care about the present and future of your business.  While
we are disappointed in the loss of NFIB/NY member Jim Fischer in the 20th
CD, we are pleased that New York was truly a driving force in the House
elections.

NFIB/NY also played a major role
in the New York State legislative races.  With your support, we backed 82
state legislative candidates and were successful in 90%!  It was critical
that more candidates were sent to Albany who understand the complicated issues
facing your business.   With the State Senate gaining a true Republican majority, we are optimistic that in January we will have lawmakers
willing to work on necessary and sensible solutions.  As an added bonus,
NFIB/NY gained a member in the Senate in George Amedore!  His experience
as a small business owner in this state will be critical in advancing tax and
regulatory reform.

With your support, we had the
tools we needed to engage in so many critical races and I truly thank
you!

While we ultimately stayed out
of the statewide races in New York, we continued to engage all the candidates
and bring forward the issues you care about.  While Governor Cuomo has
seemingly made small business a priority as he begins his term, we will not let
campaign rhetoric ring hollow.  We will continue to be outspoken and
willing critics of any elected official who advocates for policies that are
detrimental to small business.

The real work begins now!

Again, I thank you for all your
support and your NFIB/NY team is truly honored to represent you and your
business!

-Mike Durant, NFIB/NY State Director
