One of the few benefits of the "Grand Bargain"
Sales Tax Holiday
Not much good came out of the 2018 package of laws dubbed “The Grand Bargain”. It resulted in a $15 per hour minimum wage and the most generous paid family and medical leave policy in the nation. But one positive aspect of the law for small business retailers was a guaranteed sales tax holiday. This year the Massachusetts sales tax weekend is set for Saturday August 29th and Sunday August 30th.
The 2020 tax holiday is more important than ever. Small businesses dutifully complied with Governor Charlie Baker’s shutdown last March, many forced to close their business to customers for months. The tax-free weekend is an opportunity for Massachusetts residents to assist those small businesses who lost countless sales and revenue during the shutdown. NFIB is strongly urging Massachusetts residents to “shop small” during the tax-free weekend to help Main Street businesses during these incredibly difficult times.
