Parkfield Insulation Services has been operated by Bill Hatfield for the past 18 years. Their mission is to deliver prompt, effective service to meet customers’ energy and environmental needs. Parkfield provides residential and commercial property owners with energy efficient and environmentally safe cellulose insulation. Parkfield currently has 22 full-time employees, which includes Bill’s brother-in-law.
Bill was first attracted to NFIB because a friend of his was a member. Referrals are an important part of growing the NFIB membership. He has remained a member since 2003. Bill stays with NFIB because “NFIB allows you to be politically active and offers you the opportunity to meet with the legislature to voice your opinion.” He accomplishes this through attending events like local Area Action Councils and Small Business Day at the Capitol.
Bill believes that NFIB can help small business owners like him by working to improve workforce development in Ohio through training programs for unemployed individuals to teach them skills necessary to get back into the working world. Bill says the biggest challenge his company faces is hiring qualified staff and the cost of workers compensation.
The best part of being a small business owner, according to Bill, is that there are no corporate officers in charge. Small business owners live and die on their own effort and instincts. The advice Bill gives to any individual seeking to start their own business is to work harder than you think you can and never quit, “tell people your dream and then they will try and help you.”
