In June of 2018, the Ohio Opioid Education Alliance launched the Denial, OH campaign with a goal to prevent prescription opioids. NFIB was eager to see the results of a recent survey that examined the impact and effectiveness of the campaign, and sentiments surrounding opioid misuse and abuse in Ohio’s communities. We’d like to share with you some key results of the survey:

  • Nearly half of respondents living in central Ohio have seen the Denial, OH ads, including 37% of those living in other areas of the state.
  • While most parents in Ohio still underestimate the threat of opioids to their families, the majority of those who have seen the Denial, OH advertisements reported talking to their kids about opioids as a result.
  • The majority of those who have seen Denial, OH ads reported being more cautious about how they dispose of unused pills.

These survey results clearly demonstrate that the Denial, OH campaign is off to a strong start and beginning to have a significant impact on how parents and caregivers talk to their children about the dangers of prescription painkillers, and how they safely store and dispose of them. The danger and risks of opioids misuse in the home and local communities are still being underestimated, however, and require a continued effort to spread the Denial, OH message.

NFIB remains a committed partner to the Ohio Opioid Education Alliance and its cause to prevent prescription opioid misuse and abuse. To view the full results of the survey, click here.
