Like many other small businesses during the coronavirus pandemic, Bruns General Contracting is facing challenges. They believe it is imperative that Ohio, and the nation, get back to work. Bruns would like to see reform with both the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services and the Bureau of Workers Compensation. For the future, there needs to be better protection for citizens and their rights if there were to be another virus outbreak.

Founder of the company, Robert E Bruns, joined the NFIB in 1983 and his son, Steve Bruns, became active in the NFIB about 10 years ago. He feels very strongly about supporting NFIB and believes it is a great organization with great leadership helping small businesses across the entire country. Steve says, “I stay active with NFIB because of the support and information to, and for small business, that is unmatched by any other business support organization.”

For Steve Bruns, the best part of being a small-business owner is the opportunity to help other people succeed and watch them grow into successful citizens. Some advice that Steve has for someone who is starting their own business is to, “Have the courage and strength to push thru some very hard times and challenges that seem overwhelming; no-quit mentality. Have support in place to see you through the tough times ahead, for they will come.”

Steve currently serves on Ohio’s Leadership Council for NFIB and is a past chair of NFIB’s Dayton Area Action Council.  Steve traveled to Washington, DC for NFIB’s 75th Anniversary celebration and is a member of NFIB’s Leadership Trust. Bruns Construction has sponsored many events for NFIB including Small Business Day at the Capitol. He even hosted US Senator Rob Portman at his business in 2018 to talk about tax reform.
