Mosquito Control Grant (MCG) Program

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency’s (Ohio EPA) Mosquito Control Grant (MCG) Program is a collaborative effort between the Ohio EPA and the Ohio Department of Health (ODH), which began in 2016. The MCG Program was developed to make funding available to entities responsible for implementing mosquito control measures in support of Ohio’s efforts to reduce the potential for an outbreak of mosquito-borne diseases such as Zika, West Nile, and La Cross Encephalitis. The fundable activities approved under the MCG Program will help reduce the potential for an outbreak of a mosquito-borne virus and simultaneously reduce the threat that scrap tires and scrap tire dumps pose to human health and the environment.

Local health departments (LHDs) implement various programs to protect human health, safety, and the environment. LHDs are on the front lines in the fight against mosquito-borne diseases. They are the primary entity responsible for implementing local mosquito control activities such as mosquito surveillance, source reduction, and larval/adult mosquito control measures. The MCG Program makes grant monies available to any agency of the state, as long as that agency can demonstrate collaboration and obtain sponsorship from its LHD.

Recycling

Recycling is an important way for individuals and businesses to reduce the waste they generate and reduce the negative impact of that waste. Because recycling is a big business in Ohio, every time you recycle you support the many companies and employees doing this important work. So reduce, reuse, recycle, and buy recycled-content products. Your efforts benefit our natural world and our economy.

Ohio EPA’s Recycling and Litter Prevention program supports communities, nonprofits, businesses, and academic institutions that initiate or expand recycling programs, encourage sustainable practices, stimulate economic growth, and support litter prevention efforts through four different grants.

Grants are awarded on an annual basis. Applications opened the first Monday in November and close the first Friday in February the following year (February 5).

There is a Recycling & Litter Prevention Grant Informational Webinar available on January 7, 2021. This webinar discusses Ohio EPA’s 2021 Recycling & Litter Prevention Grant application process and those activities targeted by this grant program. The webinar will focus on how this competitive grant program provides opportunities for local governments, schools, businesses, and nonprofit organizations to establish and implement recycling & litter prevention programs, recycling market development for manufacturers, expansion of recycling equipment and processing facilities, and recycling infrastructure improvements.
