NFIB in Ohio designates ‘key votes’ in the legislature as those identified by small business owners as important to the success of their businesses through an annual member ballot. Every two years, NFIB then compiles the votes and determines how individual lawmakers fare on these important small business issues brought before the general assembly in Ohio.
“NFIB’s Voting Record is an accurate indicator of small business support in the Ohio legislature based on actual votes, not political rhetoric or campaign promises,” said Roger Geiger, NFIB Vice President and Executive Director in Ohio. “Based on this voting record, a majority of legislators in the 132nd Ohio General Assembly understand the concerns of Main Street, passing key legislation in the areas of regulatory, tax, and tort reform.”
The Ohio Voting Record rates lawmakers on a scale from zero to 100 percent. In the Ohio Senate, 23 current members attained a 100 percent voting record. In the Ohio House of Representatives, 60 members also attained a 100 percent voting record. Key votes in the 132nd General Assembly additionally included bills in the areas of health insurance transparency, cybersecurity, and workers’ compensation reform. There are currently 30 small business owners who are members of NFIB serving in the Ohio General Assembly.
“NFIB members directly influence our key votes, as these votes are based on their responses to our annual and special surveys which ultimately creates the Ohio Voting Record. These same members are instrumental in turning out the vote for business-friendly candidates in the November election. NFIB looks forward, and is committed, to working with legislators in the next upcoming General Assembly,” Geiger said.
