Maryland Opens Unemployment Applications to Independent Contractors

Date: April 23, 2020

How to apply

NFIB wants to let our self-employed members know that the Maryland Department of Labor opened its new website on April 24 where they can apply for unemployment benefits. Recently, the federal government passed legislation to fund the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program (PUA) which allows those not traditionally eligible for that benefit to receive it.

Here is the link for Maryland’s self-employed, independent contractors, freelancers and gig workers to apply:

In the first hours of opening there are reports of multiple problems, but a notice on the website says the state is  working with their vendor to address these issues which are due to an overload of people trying to access the site.
